Tier 1: Foundation of Luxury Household Management

Fabric Care Label Symbols

  • Wash Tub: Washing method and max temperature in °C
  • Triangle: Bleaching — empty = any bleach OK; crossed = NO bleach ever
  • Square + Circle: Tumble dry — dots indicate heat level (1=low, 2=medium, 3=high)
  • Iron: 1 dot = silk/synthetic; 2 dots = wool; 3 dots = cotton/linen
  • Circle: Dry clean only — NEVER wash at home
  • X over any symbol: Do NOT perform this action — absolute prohibition

Foundation Rule: When in doubt, ALWAYS choose the gentlest option available.

Garment Sorting

  1. Colour: Whites, lights, darks, and brights — always completely separate
  2. Fabric type: Delicates completely separate from heavy items like denim
  3. Soil level: Heavily soiled garments washed separately from lightly worn
  4. Care label: Dry-clean-only items set aside immediately — never attempt to wash them

Ironing a Business Shirt

  1. Set iron to correct temperature per fabric care label
  2. Iron collar — inside surface first, then the outside
  3. Iron cuffs, then each sleeve laid completely flat
  4. Iron the back panel, starting with the yoke area at the top
  5. Iron front panels carefully, working around each button
  6. Hang immediately on a proper wooden hanger to maintain shape

Wardrobe Organisation

  • Hang blazers individually — never layer multiple items on one hanger
  • Group garments by colour from light to dark
  • Fasten all buttons, zip all zips before hanging
  • Most frequently worn items at the most accessible position

Professional Packing

  • Folding: Structured items — blazers, dress shirts, formal trousers
  • Rolling: Saves maximum space — t-shirts, knitwear, casual wear
  • Bundling: Wrap delicate items around a soft core to prevent wrinkles

Place tissue paper between layers. Heavy items at the bottom. Garment bags for all formal wear.

Emergency Valet Kit: Mini sewing kit, safety pins, stain remover wipes.

Key Rule: Dry Clean Only label = professional cleaner only. No exceptions whatsoever.
